Reflecting expectations, the first qualifying session of the year for the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine at the inaugural round at Hockenheimring was highly intense. Taking the first pole position of the year was Prema Racing’s Ferrari Driver Academy driver, Rafael Camara, rewarded for the hard work put in with the team over the winter to be ready for the season’s first event.

With 11 leading teams and a grid of 33 cars the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine is ready to be back on the track the upcoming weekend, for the opening round at Hockenheim. The Championship promoted by ACI Sport and Alpine Racing, chosen every year by many high-profile drivers as a fundamental step in a succesful carreer, will involve also this year a quality driver pool, with many of them backed by various academies.

The afternoon in Barcelona unfolded with the last two sessions of the tests, marking the official start of the 2024 Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine season. The penultimate session kicked off right after the lunch break, with Sainteloc Racing’s Theophile Naël setting the pace, recording the best time of 1:37.583. Close behind the French driver, Brando Badoer (Van Amersfoort Racing) performed well, finishing less than three-tenths of a second off the pace.
