WKA Launches 206 Only Series

After one step back, WKA takes two-steps forward for 206 programs

After stepping back from the historic World Karting Association (WKA) Gold Cup Series many years ago, the national level karting organization is launching a new four-cycle program and making a comeback to a 206 only effort in 2022. With the new series name yet to be decided, the karting community will have a chance to put their signature on the series with a social media contest to name the 206 Only Series that will commence in the next few weeks.

“We see the opportunity to re-enter the market with a 206 Only Series, and we feel the time is right to do this. As a series, we are looking forward to working again with the shops, teams and racers making this their series. WKA is once again proud to be working with industry partners Briggs and Stratton, Summit Racing and Vega Tires in this new venture,” explained WKA’s Chairman of the Board Mike Tetreault. “We have had competitors beating down our doors to have this type of platform. Listening to the teams and racers and looking to continue the growth of karting, we are welcoming everyone back to WKA to take part in this epic rebirth. We have decided to push forward with our first event taking place near the end of June in Charlotte followed by events with our great partners in Barnesville, Georgia and Jacksonville, Florida.”

The name of the series will be decided by the racer via a social media contest on the WKA Facebook pages. With details still being finalized, competitors, teams, families, and officials will be able to chime in and provide their best title for the 206 Only program. The chosen winner will be rewarded with a set of Vega Tires that will be delivered at the first event.

Tetreault continued, “The class structure, sponsorship and series information will be released in the very near future, but a part of our prize package teaser is that all class champions will receive a full entry and tires into the 2023 WKA Daytona Kartweek with even more prizes to be announced soon.”
